Under the new legislation to come into force in 2022, preventive antibiotic treatments for individual animals will be permitted, but only in exceptional circumstances where the risk of disease is high. Group treatments will also be allowed if disease has been diagnosed in some of the animals and there is a high risk it will spread to others, and no alternative treatments are available.

The new legislation is to complete the metaphylactic administration of antibiotics and promote alternative methods for maintaining high animal health status for chemotherapeutics. Meat imported into the EU will also have to comply with the above standards. Soon, relevant legal acts will be released.
